Equities

Although the S&P 500 has more than doubled since its low in March 2009, investors have continued to heavily favor bonds over stocks. It is important that investors recognize the growth potential and diversification benefits of equities in a well-balanced portfolio.

Economic Expansions and Recessions
The economic recovery is now well underway

  • Despite its sluggish pace, the U.S. economic recovery has now persisted for more than four years.
  • Unused pent-up demand in key cyclical areas (e.g., housing, autos, inventories), an easy Fed and impressive results from the corporate sector could drive growth in the quarters and years to come.
  • Job growth and political uncertainty remain key areas of concern. However, the private sector has added more than eight million jobs so far during the recovery.
