Objective

The Fund seeks to provide a return that substantially duplicates the price and yield performance of domestically traded common stocks in the small- and mid-cap equity markets, as represented by a market capitalization weighted combination of the Standard & Poor's SmallCap 600 Index (S&P SmallCap 600) and the Standard & Poor's MidCap 400 Index (S&P MidCap 400).

Strategy/Investment process

  • Invests in stocks of small- and medium-sized U.S. companies.
  • Closely tracks the sector weights of the S&P SmallCap 600 and the S&P MidCap 400 Indexes.
  • Pursues an "enhanced index strategy," whereby all the index stocks are not included in the Fund, and the Fund may overweight or underweight individual securities.

For each fund with a three-year history, Morningstar calculates a Morningstar Rating™ metric each month by subtracting the return on a 90-day U.S. Treasury Bill from the fund's load-adjusted return for the same period, and then adjusting this excess return for risk. The top 10% of funds in each broad asset class receive 5 stars, the next 22.5% receive 4 stars, the next 35% receive 3 stars, the next 22.5% receive 2 stars and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. J.P. Morgan Funds objective box is based on the Fund's overall targeted capitalization and valuation range(s) as described in the Fund's prospectus.

Formerly JPMorgan Market Expansion Index Fund.

Mid-cap funds typically carry more risk than stock funds investing in well-established "blue-chip" companies. Historically, mid-cap companies' stock has experienced a greater degree of market volatility than the average stock.

The Fund may invest a portion of its securities in small-cap stocks. Small-capitalization funds typically carry more risk than stock funds investing in well-established "blue-chip" companies since smaller companies generally have a higher risk of failure. Historically, smaller companies' stock has experienced a greater degree of market volatility than the average stock.

1Please refer to the prospectus for additional information about cut-off times.

The S&P 1000 Index is an unmanaged index generally representative of the performance of the small and mid-size companies in the U.S. stock market. The S&P 1000 Index is a combination of the S&P MidCap 400 and the S&P SmallCap 600 Index. The performance of the index does not reflect the deduction of expenses associated with a fund, such as management fees. By contrast, the performance of the Fund reflects the deduction of fund expenses, including sales charges if applicable. An investor cannot invest directly in an index.

The performance of the Lipper Mid-Cap Core Funds Index includes expenses associated with a mutual fund, such as investment management fees. These expenses are not identical to the expenses charged by the Fund.

The performance of the Lipper Small-Cap Core Funds Index includes expenses associated with a mutual fund, such as investment management fees. These expenses are not identical to the expenses charged by the Fund.

Total return assumes reinvestment of dividends and capital gains distributions and reflects the deduction of any sales charges, where applicable. Performance may reflect the waiver of a portion of the Fund's advisory or administrative fees for certain periods since the inception date. If fees had not been waived, performance would have been less favorable.
